David Whitmore Racing Driver

Pushing Professional

David Whitmore started racing almost a decade ago in sprint and hill climb in a Clio 172, with Lancashire and Cheshire car club. Dave claimed a few wins and Driver’s Choice winner in his first year and then took the Clio to tin tops with Classic Sports Car Club. He then took part in Britcar, driving an MX5 and grabbed a few podiums, followed by the BMW Compact Cup.

He’s from a council estate in Oldham, but has made an impact on the ‘gentleman’s sport of racing.’ He’s dyslexic, but the keenest communicator on a grid. He’s 6’6 with a rugby player’s build, but an amateur driver pushing professionals’ times.

David Whitmore is currently racing in the 2021 British GT Championship with Ciceley Motorsport.

Early Career

Staring out in the Classic Car Club Tin Tops race at Castle Combe, Dave had one of his biggest crashes and totalled his Honda Civic Type R race car. This shook him but after a rebuild of the car and  confidence, came back fighting.

In the Bmw M3 cup at Snetterton Dave got his first podium. There was a bit of luck from the racing gods as Luke Sedzikowski crashed out on the last lap which give him 3rd place. Hopefully more to come. 
 
Dave’s first win in the BMW M3 cup came at the famous Silverstone Circuit. Dave won a one make series race and felt unreal. With these style of races, it’s about the driver and not about having the better car. This is when Dave started getting to grips with understanding the performance and handling of the BMW M3. 
 
Dave placed 6th at Rockingham a year later in the BMW Compact Cup, but struggling with the fact that he was around 50 kg heavier than everyone on the grid. A faster car was on the horizon.

Rockingham and Road to GT

The following year at Rockingham Motor Speedway in Brit Car, Dave got his his first win with team mate Ryan. It was close right to the end but the trustee Mazda MX5 on slicks was amazing. 
 
A year later in 2019 he won the first two races in the 750 Motor Club’s Club Enduro driving the BMW M4 with teammate Luke Sedzikowski and TI Motorsport. The first win at Donington Park Circuit and second win at Croft,  they finished third overall in the Championship.
 
In 2020 Dave won his first race in British GT GT4 in the BMW M4 GT4, a fast paced and amazing experience Dave can’t believe he was a part of… ‘Massive thanks to all my sponsors, family and friends’.
 
Later that year Dave was privileged to be given a seat in the Gulf 12 Hours endurance race with AMR racing in the Aston Martin GT4 at the Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi.

 

British GT Championship

David Whitmore is currently racing in the 2021 British GT Championship with Ciceley Motorsport in a Mercedes-AMG GT4.

Racing in the world’s foremost domestic GT series, Dave hopes to be on the podium consistently, always with the aim of winning the championship in his mind. First round is at Brands Hatch, Great Britain on the 22 May 2021 watch this space!
